What should I know for my first trip to wine country?
My BF and I go to the central coast of the week March 2 for what will be the first trip El Paso, Napa, SLO for both. We have the situation of the hotel more or less in check, but I wonder what might need to know about must-see vineyards restaurants, attractions, etc. We do need to RSVP to any of the wineries? What is the average price per visit / taste? What is the average time spent in each vineyard (in order to calculate approximately how many places you can see in a day)? We drive to LV, in El Paso, making our way to San Francisco within a week and would like to make the most of this trip possible, so any suggestions are greatly appreciated!
In Napa, my favorites are wineries Hess, Robert Mondavi, Rutherford, Silver Oak (a bit expensive, but cool), Beringer and definitely Sterling (you have to take a tram to reach the top). If you can go to the Oakville Grocery (which looks like a hole in the wall), be sure to snack their way through it. Also try eating a mustard, and have the grilled steak suspension.
